| Adam Internet, South Australia’s oldest Internet Service Provider (ISP), has put its competitors on notice, with the announcement that the Australian Telecommunications Authority has granted the company a carrier’s licence.
The licence will enable Adam Internet to double its workforce to 70 over the next year and plough funds into new infrastructure at its King William Street Data Centre in the heart of Adelaide’s CBD. The high-security facility currently houses co-location, point to point wireless, and web hosting facilities for State-based and national organisations. Adam Internet’s wholesale business also supports the operations of 13 other ISPs. Managing Director Scott Hicks said the licence would allow Adam Internet to take full advantage of public and shared telecommunications facilities within Australia. “This opens up new opportunities for Adam Internet to offer government, businesses and residences a broad range of services that only a carrier-grade ISP can provide,” Mr Hicks said. Adam Internet has been connecting South Australian businesses and families to the Internet for nearly 20 years, pioneering services such as corporate dialup, flat-rate ADSL, bandwidth shaping, and voice over IP. |
